Insider Tips for Securing Ferry Tickets between Nantucket and Hyannis

Insider Tips for Securing Ferry Tickets between Nantucket and Hyannis

As you may already be aware, the Steamship Authority has pushed back the start date for Summer Car Ferry reservations (originally planned for January 23rd). We are monitoring the situation and will keep you posted on when the reservation system is back up and running.

Insider Tips

  1. Set your alarm for 5 AM, and be one of the first to log-on.
  2. Missed your first pick? Don’t panic. Sign up for the best days and times that match your travel. Then sign up for the WAIT LIST. The Steamship Authority continues to check your preferred dates up until the day you want to travel.
  3. Can’t get on the ferry of your choice? Take advantage of “no-shows” by getting on the standby list.
  4. Still can’t get your car over? Consider the Drive-On/ Drive-Off service where you drop off the car in Hyannis and come over to ACK without your car. Once a space opens up, the Steamship will drive your car onto the ferry, and drive it off the ferry in Nantucket. You’ll get a phone call when it’s time to pick up your car.
  5. Consider Homes with a Transferable Car Ferry Reservation: Some of our great Nantucket rental homes come with transferable ferry tickets. Take a look at our list of homes with Transferrable Ferry Tickets.

If all else fails:

  • Keep in mind we have a great bus system - now free - The Wave.
  • Cabs, uber and car rentals are an option, too.
  • Our extensive system of bike paths is great for navigating the island by bike.

Can’t wait to help you make this summer unforgettable! As always, I’m just an email or call away if you need anything.

See you on the island soon!
